NUMMER 6 PARALLEL
PARALLEL PRISONER

TITELSEQUENZEN 2009 - 1967 (IN AUSZÜGEN)

Taxi 2009 - nacht.

Fahrer: "Wohin?"
6: "Ich muss zu einem bahnhof."

Fahrer: "Ein was...?"

Taxi 1967 - tag.

Landkarte 1967: Ob schwarz-weiß oder farbig, alles ist nur, was es ist - the mountains The Mountains, the sea The Sea, the village Your Village...

Nummer Sechs, lakonisch:

Nummer Zwei:
"Guten morgen, guten morgen! Irgendwelche beschwerden?"

Gerätschaften mit eigenleben - nicht mit mir! Aus!

Auch im 1967er original gibt es solche apparate.

Nummer Zwei:
"Wie wär's mit einem kleinen schnack?" *
Es klingelt...
Nummer Sechs:
"Der berg kann zum propheten kommen...!"
"Guten morgen, 6! Zeit für teil zwei ihres partner-datings...!"
Und sofort an der türschwelle; Nummer Zwei:

6. CHECKMATE

"
Nummer Sechs: "Wie heißt
das hier?"

Kellnerin: "Wie das hier heißt...? Vielleicht ist der kaffee schon fertig."

4. FREE FOR ALL - FREIE WAHL

6. CHECKMATE

17. FALL OUT - DEMASKIERUNG

- Warum?
- Sie haben uns unsere fehler erkennen lassen.
- Warum?
- Sie sind rein, sie kennen den weg. Zeigen sie ihn uns!
- Warum?
- Ihre revolte ist gut und aufrichtig. Sie sind das einzige individuum. Wir brauchen sie.
- Ich sehe...
- Natürlich. Sie sehen alles.
- Ich bin ein individuum?
- Sie sind ganz bei sich selbst.
- Kann ich nicht nachvollziehen.

R.I.P. - FRIEDHOF 2009 - 1967

PARALLEL PRISONER

The very first and most obvious allusion is the title of the AMC/ITV recreation: . What's missing in this recreated sequence is the condensed narration of what happened before and up to our hero's abduction. It is less detailed, we don't get any clue as to how 6 is knocked out.

THE SIX IDENTITY: TIM BOURNE INTERVIEWED
REVIEWED... (ENGLISH LANGUAGE)
THE INCREDIBLE STORY OF MISTER G (GERMAN LANGUAGE)

First we see 6 awaken in the desert, then walking towards the place called the Village. The real Number Six on the other hand, conscious again, already finds himself in the Village. A look from the window reveals that nothing he used to know is the same. In a postponed credit sequence of the remake we get flashes of 6 in his car driving into an underground car park which is almost identical to its precursor. However his spray-can attack on a company window on which he writes "Resign" is very different to the 67 variant who hands the letter of resignation in an envelope ("by hand) his superior.

TITLE SEQUENCES 2009 - 1967 (EXCERPTS)

There are some remarkable scenes of the original that in this remake are sometimes more, sometimes less accurately re-enacted image by image. We'll take a look at them.

The corridor through which Number Six walks in every credit sequence is not part of the intro here but a flash of memory by 6 in the middle of episode one. There are more inevitable quotes like that of 93, the old man's living quarter, an almost exact replica of Number Six' 1967 one. Then there are the bottle and tin can labels bearing the new Village sign: the "5 fingers" symbol. Those watching extremely closely will also discover a genuine Lotus 7 sportscar with a yellow bonnet in the background of the underground car park. It is audible by the sound of its engine before it can be seen.

Immediately after his arrival 6 enters a 19th century spa-style building diner. But in this remake there is no such slightly surreal encounter in the café (see below!). It is only in the last episode "Checkmate" that we experience a similar irritating dialogue as with the café waitress who has now been replaced by a newly arrived woman and her children.

In the original series episode "Free For All" the "Cat and Mouse Club" is a pub at the outskirts of the Village. Number Six gets to know non-alcoholic beverages that "look the same and taste the same" like real ones. This location is never used in further episodes. It's different with the remake, a veritable night club offering pop and rock music and go-go dancers, too. Alcohol is also on sale. And there is an iron penny-farthing (no canopy) hanging decoratively from the ceiling.

1. ARRIVAL

1. ARRIVAL

Taxi 2009 - night.

Driver: "Whereto?"
6: "I need to get to a railroad station."

Driver: "A rail- what...?"

Taxi 1967 - day.

Number Six: "Take me to the nearest town."
Driver: "Oh, we're only the local service."
Number Six: "Take me as far as you can."

6: "But what village...?"
Driver: "Man, this is the Village. And I do local destinations only...
"

Downtown 6 suddenly jumps off the taxi.

"I suppose it's a waste of time asking the name of this place."

Nummer Six receives a sightseeing tour of the Village.

Rover 2009: In a moment of real surprise the balloon rises behind a desert sand dune.
Rover 1967 is "born" out of a water fountain on the Central Piazza of the Village.
XXL - this Rover is of gigantic dimensions compared to its 1967 counterpart.
Quickly growing in size the balloon jumps on the Gloriette balcony, next down on the square.
6's attempt to reach the mysterious "towers" - or else, was it an escape bid? - goes haywire. Does Rover have lethal powers? We are never sure.

Rover's first appearance teaches a lesson in stopping one panicking Village inhabitant. If he is left dead remains uncertain. But to be sure, this Rover has the licence to kill.

Rover's roaring was adapted from the original in 2009.

Map 2009: What 6 gets is a rather huge scale map. But he still hasn't got a clue...
Map 1967: No matter black-and-white or full color, everything's just what it is - the mountains The Mountains, the sea The Sea, the village Your Village...
"Be seeing you!" 2009: In the shop: knit-vest clad and with US accent; spread fingers the Village-symbol.
"Be seeing you!" 1967: Proper merchant outfit in the summer resort; forming the ring symbol with his hand. And the shop keeper knows to speak foreign languages, too.

4. DARLING

4. FREE FOR ALL

A 1960s style remote-controlled TV-set in operation waking up 6...
Morning call for Number Six by Number Two.
Out of whack. Having slept fitfully 6 raises towards the TV-set.
Telephone voice:
"Are you Number Six?"
Number Six, succinctly:
"6 is the number
of this place."
"Good morning, 6! Time for matching date..."
Number Two:
"Good morning, good morning! Any complaints?"

Auto-operating appliances - shut off...!

There were devices like this in the 1967 original.

Number Two:
"Fancy a chat?"
Ringing of the door bell...
Number Six:
"The mountain can come to Mohammed...!"
"Good moning, 6! Time for matching date, stage two..."
And instantly Number Two on the doorstep:
"Mohammed...?"

6. CHECKMATE

1. ARRIVAL

Compared to the original the dialogue parts have exchanged roles.

6 approaches newcomers who believe they are arriving from the Village...

The waitress doesn't seem to care much for Number Six' queries:
"Where am I?" "Can I get a taxi?" "Where can I make a phone call?"
The woman is told by 6: "This is the Village. You've arrived here."
But does she care?
"Isn't it just the wildest thing...!"
Number Six inquiring the waitress: "What's the name of this place?" The waitress elusively: "The Village...?"

6. CHECKMATE

4. FREE FOR ALL

Fatally ill by manipulation: 2 discloses to 6 what alternatives there are...
"First stage only": Number Six in the truth test at the mercy of the creepy Labour Exchange Manager

A unanimous majority for the successor: "6 is the one, 6 is
the 1..."

"Six for Two, Six for Two...!" Electoral time, time for slogans

6. CHECKMATE

17. FALL OUT

2 talking to 6:

"You’re an integrity. You’re vision. You’re everything we had. Love, loathing, death and still you resist. But now I see - you are not the problem, I call, but an asset, an opportunity to take us forward."

^

The President of the Assembly and the Prisoner:

- You have been such an example to us.
- Why?
- You've convinced us of our mistakes.
- Why?
- You're pure, you know the way. Show us!
- Why?
- Your revolt is good and honest. You are the only individual. We need you.
- I see.
- You do. You see all.
- I'm an individual?
- Your are on your own.
- I fail to see.
