DER PERSPEKTIVE Der ort Portmeirion, schauplatz von NUMMER 6, ist als ensemble ein trugbild, eine mediterrane Fata Morgana im hohen norden. Die serie verdankt dem, damals wie auch heute noch, weithin unbekannten realschauplatz einen großen teil ihrer berühmtheit.
Strategien der täuschung sind hier - ebenso wie in der serie selbst - zentrales architektonisches gestaltungselement. Wie sehr noch das solideste bauwerk zugleich eine kulisse ist, demonstriert diese aufnahme. Zu sehen ist das Pantheon, NUMMER-6-fans besser bekannt als das grüne kuppelgebäude, amtssitz von Nummer Zwei. Eingedenk der gewohnten imposanten front (zum vergleich hier...), ist dieses bild der rückwärtigen ansicht ein regelrechter schock. Denn selten werden die größenmaßstäbe so deutlich wie in diesem wunderschönen beispiel. Doch nicht alles, was nach Portmeirion aussieht, ist auch Portmeirion. Ein einziges beispiel für die verwendung von mock-ups oder fake sets, die außenszenen simulieren, jedoch im studio in Borehamwood standen. Die liste könnte ewig lang sein: eine szene mit strandleben, im fertigen schnitt nur wenige sekunden lang...
... und was in wirklichkeit geschah. Bemerkenswert, dass es nicht auffällt; wohl deshalb, weil die vorhergehende sequenz real vor ort entstand.
Portmeirion, the location of the PRISONER filming, in its entirety is a veritable mediterranean fata morgana in the northern hemisphere and although still widely unknown with the public even today the series owes a lot of its reputation to this place. Strategies of deception - as in the action of the series itself - are at the centre of the architectural design. However, just to which degree and at the same time even the most solid building is a prop is demonstrated by the above image. It shows the Pantheon or the Green Dome, as most PRISONER fans will call it, the Number Two headquarter. Keeping in mind its frontal view (see here...) this rear view is a real shock. Because it isn't too often that the proportions are displayed that clearly like on this marvellous photo. But it's not everthing Portmeirion that looks like it. Just one single example, there could be hundreds, regarding the use of mock-ups or fake sets standing in for outdoor scenes which were set up at the Borehamwood studio: a beach life scenery that takes only seconds in the finished episode...
... and what really happened. It's remarkably believable, maybe because the preceding sequence was indeed shot on location.
