Über Ron Grainers geniale NUMMER-6-titelmusik ist viel geschrieben worden. Weniger dagegen über die verwendung von anderen musikstücken in der serie, entweder sogenannte source music oder aber incidental music.
Mit ersterer wird musik bezeichnet, die ihre quelle innerhalb des sets bzw. der handlung hat; prominentestes stück aus dieser kategorie ist der "Radetzki Marsch", häufig von der Village Band intoniert. Letztere ist die handlung meist dramatisch oder die stimmung untermalende musik, die sich aus öffentlichen musikbibliotheken speist oder aber eigens für die serie komponiert wurde.

Much has been written about Ron Grainer's brilliant PRISONER title music. Less, on the other hand, about the use of further music pieces in the series. Which falls into two main categories, source music and incidental music.
The first being music the source of which can be located within the set or the action itself. The "Radetzki March" certainly is the most prominent piece in this respect. It is often played by the Village Band. The latter kind of music is mainly designed for colouring or enhancing the action or the mood. This music either comes from public libraries or is specially composed for the series."
