Eins der bemerkenswertesten ausstattungsstücke in NUMMER 6 ist der sessel von Nummer Zwei. Denn zum einen befindet er sich exakt im mittelpunkt des kreisrunden kontrollraumes im sog. grünen kuppelgebäude, zum anderen ist er im fußboden versenkbar. Und zum dritten ist er kugelförmig.

Entworfen von dem Finnen Eero Aarnio, war diese verschmelzung von möbelstück und architektur, von raum innerhalb eines raumes, von abgeschlossenheit bei gleichzeitiger öffnung und drehmöglichkeit, die sensation auf der Kölner Möbelmesse von 1966.

Im internet lassen sich unter dem stichwort zahlreiche quellen finden.

Seine einbeziehung in die serie spricht sehr für das formensprachliche verständnis der produzenten und für ihr gespür, aktuelle tendenzen des gestalterischen designs aufzugreifen. Einerseits wird hier die rundung der Pantheonkuppel aufgenommen, andererseits eine inhaltliche beziehung hergestellt zu Rover, dem ballonartigen futuristischen wachhund des Ortes und verlängerten arm der jeweiligen Nummer Zwei. Ebenso verweist das kreisförmige des Globe Chairs auf die mehr oder weniger deutliche zirkularität der serie grundsätzlich: Die anfangs- und schlusseinstellungen, der mann im Super 7 auf der leeren piste, sind nahezu identisch. Und die episode "Herzlichen Glückwunsch" ist in sich die geschichte einer zyklischen bewegung, einer - wie vielfach gesagt wurde - mythischen reise, die zum ausgangspunkt zurückführt. Doch es ist nicht ausgemacht, dass ausgangs- und endpunkt vollkommen gleich sind.

One of the most remarkable props of THE PRISONER series is the "armchair" used by Number Two. Because, on the one hand, it is placed in the very centre of the control room in the Green Dome; on the other hand, it disappears underneath the floor. And, thirdly, it is shaped as a globe or sphere.

Designed by Eero Aarnio, a Finn, this blend of a furniture piece and architecture, of space within space, secluded while simultaneously being open and able to turn around was the hilight of the 1966 Cologne Furniture Fair.

On the internet many sources can easily be found entering the keyword.

Using this piece as a prop in the series is proof of the producers' understanding of form and their far-sightedness in including contemporary trends in creative design. Thus, the circular shape of the Pantheon cupola is embedded as there is a relation drawn, in its contents, to Rover, the balloon-like futuristic Village watchdog, the extended arm of the Village's Number Two. And the Globe Chair's shape also aims, with more or less clarity, to the PRISONER plot's circularity in general. The first shot and the last, the man in his Super 7 driving down a deserted road, are almost identical. And the episode "Many Happy Returns" features the plot of a cyclical movement, a mythical voyage - as has been said frequently - that leads back to the origin. But is isn't certain that both inception and destination are in fact totally congruent.
