THE STONE BOAT
"Amis Réunis"

Eine kleine sehenswürdigkeit, ein unikum Portmeirions, ist das steinboot, das in die kaimauer eingelassene schiff, Amis Réunis ("Freunde vereinigt"), unmittelbar vor dem hotel-hauptgebäude. Es wurde 1930 nach zeichnungen von Sir Clough Williams-Ellis gebaut und erinnert an ein schiff gleichen namens, das bei starken wind im watt vor Portmeirion zerstört wurde.

Von land her kommend, könnte man wirklich ein vertäutes schiff vermuten. So ist es kein wunder, dass das objekt schon häufig echte schiffe für film- und fernsehaufnahmen doublen musste.
Das steinboot hat in NUMMER 6 mindestens zwei kleine auftritte, in "Die Ankunft" und "Free For All". Ein bewohner des Ortes, der alte kapitän, erklärt Nummer Sechs, er sei schon oft damit draußen gewesen, und es liege gut im wind. Ein schiff, unbeweglich, weil mit dem festland verwachsen, muss für Nummer Sechs zudem ein ständiges memento dafür sein, dass flucht auch über das meer kaum oder gar nicht möglich ist.

This is a true little Portmeirion attraction, the stoneboat, Amis Réunis ("United Friends"), a ship built into the quai wall in front of the main hotel building. It was constructed after sketches by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis in 1930 and commemorates a real boat of the same name which was destroyed by strong wind and sank on the Portmeirion estuary.

Approaching from land it may well be taken as a real moored ship. Little wonder that it frequently had to stand in for movies and TV productions.
The stoneboat is featured shortly at least twice in THE PRISONER, in "Arrival" and "Free For All". One Villager, the old captain, tells Number Six that she was good in any weather, sailed it many times. Because of being tied to the mainland and immobile, to Number Six the ship must be a constant reminder of the futility of any escape on the sea.
