THE COB

Der straßen- und eisenbahndamm über das marschland zwischen Minffordd, wo sich die ausschilderung Italianate Village nach Portmeirion befindet, und Porthmadog. Auf Minffordder seite wurde eine zeitlang ein "straßenzoll" von einigen Pennies erhoben, um damit eine erweiterung um einen rad- und fußweg finanzieren zu können.

In Porthmadog startet die Ffestiniog Railway, eine der berühmten walisischen schmalspurbahnen, hinauf in die berge zur beeindruckenden schiefermine von Llechwedd. Erst in jüngster zeit wurden neue gleise quer über die vielbefahrene Highstreet verlegt für einen späteren lückenschluss in der strecke der Ffestiniog Railway. "Arhoswch - Edrychwch - Gwrandewuch! Gwyliwch y trenau!". Einen halben tagesausflug entfernt ist die gewaltige burgruine von Conwy einlohnendes ziel (mehr...). Und bei schönem

wetter hat der südteil der insel Anglesey sogar etwas mediterranes an sich. Überhaupt ist Porthmadog ein gutes basiscamp für exkursionen in Nord-Wales. Für die abendgestaltung empfehlen sich Guinness, Bitter, Ale oder Lager im "Y Llong" - "The Ship". Um eine attraktion reicher ist Porthmadog seit 2005: "Y Bragdy Mŵs Piws" - die "Purple Moose Brewery" bei Spooner's mit sitz im bahnhof der Ffestiniog Railway.

THE COB

The road and railway dam across the marsh between Minffordd where Portmeirion is signposted Italianate Village and Porthmadog. Coming from Minffordd, until the recent past a few Pennies of "road toll" were collected to finance a combined bycicle and footpath alongsinde the Cob.

The Ffestiniog Railway, one of Wales' famous narrow gauge railways, starts in Porthmadog. Only very recently new railway tracks were laid out across traffic flooded Highstreet to eventually close the last gap in the line of Ffestiniog Railway. "Arhoswch - Edrychwch - Gwrandewuch! Gwyliwch y trenau!". The journey leads you into the mountains and to the Llechwedd slate mine which is definitely worth seeing. And the southern coastline of the isle of Anglesey may evoke even a mediterranean feeling provided the weather is fine. In general, Porthmadog proves a suitable base camp for the stay in North Wales. In the evening hours Guinness, Bitter, Ale or Lager are recommended in "Y Llong" - "The Ship". One of Porthmadog's recent attractions is "Y Bragdy Mŵs Piws" - the "Purple Moose Brewery" located in the Ffestiniog Railway station building.
